In March 2016, Portugal defeated Spain in a World Cup qualifying match in Lisbon.
They beat Spain 2-0 at the Estadio da Luz, the Portuguese national stadium.
They went on to win the tournament and then the Euro 2016 with Portugal, and a World Cups crown in 2018.
At the time, many were wondering whether the Portuguese players would return for the 2019 World Cup.
It was a question that was not only asked of the players but also the fans who were in the stands, some of whom were crying, and were cheering for the Portuguese.
Portugal were beaten 2-1 by Uruguay in a friendly, and the next day, Neymar went back for another friendly against Brazil, where he scored three goals and assisted on three others.
This led to a flurry of questions and speculation, with the public asking why the team were returning, and how it would affect the squad.
Neymar returned for the 2018 World Cup, and Portugal were knocked out of the tournament by Spain in the quarter-finals.
At that time, the team announced that Neymar would not be joining them in 2018, but he was not the only one.
Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Busquets joined the squad in 2019, and has continued to do so since.
Neymars absence was felt by a number of other players, especially in the back line, and it was believed that Neymar would be replaced by an alternative player.
Ney will be missed, but so will Busquet.
A World Cup in 2019 will be Neymar’s final World Cup with the national team.
He has been a fantastic player, a great friend, and an amazing friend of mine.
But this has all changed.
He will never be here, he has left.
The time is now to go, to go to Europe and be with the fans.
The fans, the fans, they are the reason why I joined the national side, I wanted to represent the people of Portugal, the best in the world.
So we will continue to play for them, we will stay here for a while, we are in the same team.
But this World Cup has changed everything.
I want to thank everyone for their support.
We are very grateful to everyone who supported me and the national squad, and especially to my parents who supported the team.
